The
property is situated in the quiet little hamlet of La
Croix sur Gartempe (click for online map), which is on a "scenic
route" and is very pretty complete with a small river and hump back
bridge (at a safe distrance from the village). The beautiful views are protected
as new developments are prohibited. Our property comprises a big barn and
three cottages all in a long line, with the barn forming one side of the
village square, with its land
running
out behind it. On the other side of the square is a bar/restaurant which
is owned by an English couple.The town of Bellac is only a short drive away
and offers all the amenities and facilities you would expect from a modern
town. The medieval town of Le Dorat is also close by. The airports of Poitiers
and Limoges are about one hours drive away.
As you approach the property the barn (see above)dominates the square, with
its three red doors and solid construction of stone and timber approximately
50 ft long and 30 ft wide, two stories high. There is permission to convert
the barn.
Attached to the barn is the first cottage. The door opens into a hallway
with a door to the left leading to the sitting room (12' x 4') and straight
on to the kitchen with a couple of steps leading to the cellar.
The kitchen looks out onto the stable and bread
oven. There is a Limousin basin at the bottom
of the stairs and on the fiorst floor there is a large light airy space
which would make two very large bedrooms. There are stairs leading up to
the very spacious attic. Power and water are
connected
to this cottage.
The next cottage is smaller with the front door opening into the living
room with the kitchen behind. Upstairs there are two rooms.
The third and smallest cottage is at the back and is really only a one up
- one down. As the cottages adjoin one another a number of configurations
are possible.
The
gateway (see above) leads top what must have been a kitchen garden
and small orchard, with the paddock being
behind this area. The buildings and paddock extend to approx 2.5 acres,
and there are a number of outbuildings.
The property has huge potential to be developed into a
substantial home and Gite complex.
